The Walking and Climbing Company have carefully designed this DofE expedition facility. This allows participants the opportunity to complete their expedition in the Himalayas; an area that for many is a trip of a life time. The young people participating will plan their routes, carry their kit, camp and cook. Groups are remotely supervised by the company staff who will see the teams at various check points, and at the start and end of the day. Groups will have the experience of being independent and taking responsibility for their DofE expedition. The 20 expedition conditions are all met. There is excellent support from highly experienced staff used to the mountains of Nepal and Tibet to facilitate the smooth running and safety of the young people's planned adventure.

The Walking and Climbing Company have been an Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award since 2008. The company operates under BS8848 safety standards and is ATOL and ABTOT bonded.

Annapurna Base Camp Open Award

Annapurna Base Camp Open Award - The Annapurna area is one of the most beautiful areas of the Himalayas and lends itself exceptionally well to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. On this expedition there is time for the group to go up to the Annapurna Base camp and experience the hugely impressive Annapurna glacier. The route follows mountain trails established by the local people. The Annapurna mountain range includes peaks towering over 8000 metres so as you complete your expedition you will be trekking beneath these mountains very impressive. This can be a group booking or an Open expedition, all participants must have completed their practise expedition successfully prior to starting the trek.

Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp Trek - Nepal - Trekking to Everest Base camp is one of the most famous treks in the world. As a DofE expedition groups will need to plan the route they will take as well as the best areas to camp and the time needed to acclimatise. Assistance and training is available if required. This region takes the teams into the Khumbu region of the Himalayas, an area where as well as seeing Everest there are numerous other famous mountains giants to admire along the way. Following the assessed expedition there will be time to interact with the locals and experience the culture of these fascinating mountain people and their homeland. This can be a group booking or an Open expedition, all participants must have completed their practise expedition successfully prior to starting the trek.

Yamdrok Lake

Yamdrok Lake - Tibet - This area works as a DofE/Award Gold expedition as the route does not include steep ascents or descents and is an easy area for camping. Tibet as a country is at a very high altitude so there needs to be time allowed at the start of the trip for acclimatising to this altitude. This allows time to see the city of Lhasa and learn about the culture of the Tibetan people. The accommodation is a mix of camping and lodges to ensure all aspects of the DofE. Award are covered.

Ganden Samye Trek

Ganden Samye Trek - Tibet - This expedition is in a stunning area of Tibet with a variety of terrain - valleys, rivers, lakes, forest and stunning mountain views. Planning this expedition requires use of the maps provided as well as using Google Earth. As well as completing the assessed expedition for the DofE, it is recommended participants consider spending some time with the people of Tibet, they are a wonderful race and an inspiration to experience due to the unmistakable influence of the Tibetan Buddhist culture. This can be a group booking or an Open expedition, all participants must have completed their practise expedition successfully prior to starting the trek.

Annapurna Base Camp Open Award

Dagala 1000 lakes Open Award - Trekking in Bhutan is a wonderful experience and this trekking region is a moderate level and therefore suitable for DofE groups. As well as completing the requirements of the award there are also opportunities to visit many local landmarks and experience the culture. The trekking area offers exceptional views and landscapes, and will be an experience of a lifetime.

Helambu Walk

Helambu Walk - The trek in the Helambu region starts with a short drive north from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. There are numerous trails to follow in this region so participants can safely devise their route from local maps. The area is versatile so there is also flexibility on the number of days needed to complete a trek. This area will allow the group to travel through fir and rhododendron forests, flower meadows and along side streams. This can be a group booking or an Open expedition; all participants must have completed their practise expedition successfully prior to starting the trek.

The Walking and Climbing Company Ltd are specialists in trekking and mountaineering adventure holidays in the Nepal and Tibet Himalayan Mountain range.

Trips are categorised by their level of challenge starting with walks for all, to trekking peaks for those looking to push themselves further, to climbing expeditions for experienced mountaineers.

All are designed carefully to ensure you have the time of your life and have the support of experienced guides to ensure the smooth running and safety of your adventure.

A number of these trips are run as DofE Award 'Expeditions'. There is also the opportunity to complete charity project work through links The Walking and Climbing Company have in these countries.

The Walking and Climbing Company work in conjunction with schools and Colleges to enable groups from these organisations to plan and run the expedition section of this. A close working relationship is built up to ensure the requirements of the school or College are met, the students have the support and preparation they need and every opportunity to achieve their award.

Pre trip talks and training can also be arranged and all participants will as a minimum have contact with the Company to discuss their preparation as needed. This covers areas such as fitness, routes, equipment, vaccinations, culture and what to expect from the environment.

The UK practice in the year prior to travel can also be arranged if required and is a great way for groups to bond and to ensure all are ready for the rigors of the trip ahead.
